These community drum classes are an exploration of many things, including:
Development of hand drumming technique, participation in drum circle activities and group games,
recreational music making with our drums & our voices, learning some traditional world rhythms, as well as creating our own. There will be time for learning about drum circle etiquette, as well as some of the spiritual and ceremonial aspects of drumming. The content of our time together is focused, yet playful, fun, and light-hearted.
Come to gain skills, knowledge about drumming culture, and also just for the stress relief and immunity boost! No prior experience is provided, and some drums will be supplied. Bring yours, if you have one.
We will primarily be playing West African hand drums, but may explore some Native style drumming on Hoop drums as well as with the Mother Drum, especially around Harvest time.

"Community Drum Circle,"
Fundraiser for American Red Cross, Relief Fund for
Victims of Haiti earthquake
7:00PM-9:30PM
Concord Community Music School, Concord, NH
Doors open at 6:30pm
Drum Circle Invocation begins at 7:00pm (please try to be there by 7pm if possible)
*This will be led by Drum Elders, Mary Lamenzo and Laney Goodman
What to Expect:
I will be taking some time to teach some of the drum parts of the Haitian rhythm "IBO" which honors a family of Ancestral spirits of Haiti, as well as, is a Liberation rhythm.
Much of the night will be loosely facilitated grooves, as well as maybe a drum circle game or two.
In addition, maybe some of the NH drum groups will show us their "chops" and play a drumsong for us that we could all groove into. Anyone?
I expect we'll make some space for dancing as the rhythm heats up!
If you have been wanting to do something positive for the people of Haiti and for our Earth, to uplift the energies from grief into joy and liberation, this is a great forum to do so. It brings a sense of powerfulness in the face of hopelessness and grief.
Hope to see many of you there, and I look forward to being with you
in a circle of rhythm, community, and joy~
(Thank you to everyone who showed up for this event. There were at least 50 of us! And your gracious dontations to the American Red Cross were very much appreciated and helpful to the people of Haiti."

"Dear Julie, I really liked drumming with you. It was fun when you came to our school.
It was like one of my dreams come true. My hands hurts a lot though!
I hope you can really come back."
"Dear Julie, I loved the drumming! It made my heart flow with the beat of the drum. Thank you so much!
I loved the rhythm. My foot was tapping on the ground the whole time.
I sang and drummed the beat on the way home, at bed time, in the shower, and even at the barn!"
"Dear Julie, I felt I had a really good time drumming. I felt I got a lot out of it.
It was very exciting for me.
I loved the Mother Drum. We hope you can come back someday."
"I really liked the drumming. It was fun and relaxing. Because I want to become a drummer,
it taught me new skills to improve my drumming."
"Dear Julie, I loved drumming with you because it was not just drumming,
it was the best drumming I ever did in my life.
I miss drumming with you."
"Dear Ms. Corey, I had a fun time with you. I hope you did too. I thought you were very talented.
I know anyone that's a better drummer than you Ms. Corey. I think everybody had a good time.

I was amazed. I also liked the different patterns you taught us, and I loved the performance!
I REALLY want you to come back next year!"
"Dear Miss Corey, I think you did a perfect job with the drumming. I loved all the African songs. I also thank you for letting us use the bells on our ankles, and the shawls to put on our backs. There's nothing you need to do to make it better. I loved your clothes you wore, they were so colorful.

September 27th, 2009 Drum Circle Games!
"An interactive, collection of rhythmic-centered activities that allow for
FUN, CONNECTION, AND EXPRESSION"
This is a good workshop for facilitators and teachers, or anyone who just wants to experience other aspects of drumming, beyond learning culturally specific rhythms. But, you do not have to be a teacher or facilitator to attend. You do not need to have any experience drumming.
It's for those who would like to have a day of fun & good energy!
In this workshop, we will explore games of Creativity & Drumming;
Interact with Boomwackers;
And play with our own "Found Sounds"
(Please bring one soft found sound, and one loud found sound to the workshop;
something that is not an instrument, but could be made into one
- like a kitchen pot and a wooden spoon, but GET CREATIVE!)
I will be offering some Arthurian style facilitation, as well as games I have learned in the past few years from my attendance at the International Drum Circle Facilitator's Conferences.
This is a half-day workshop offered in the Morning & repeated again in the Afternoon
Come from 10am-1pm, or 2pm-5pm
(Or attend both sessions if you are having too much fun!)
